Dr. Alexandra Pérez Rivera graduated from Nova Southeastern University (NSU) with a Pharm.D. in 2005. An active member of various student organizations, Dr. Pérez served terms as student delegate and vice-president for Phi Delta and as president for Rho Chi, and was a member of Phi Lambda Sigma. During her course of studies, Dr. Pérez Rivera maintained an active involvement in pharmacy organizations such as in the American Pharmacists Association, (APhA), and American & Florida Society of Health-system Pharmacists (ASHP, FSHP) and was an assistant instructor in the Physical Assessment Institute at NSU.
Dr. Pérez Rivera attended the University of Illinois at Chicago, (UIC), to complete an AHSP-accredited pharmacy practice residency. Her residency experiences provided opportunities within various pharmacy settings, including inpatient and outpatient clinical areas where she performed as a resident in training and code-blue team member. She was also a clinical instructor and advanced practice preceptor during her residency training.
Dr. Pérez Rivera completed her fellowship in Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research in the Center for Pharmacoeconomic Research, College of Pharmacy at the UIC. During this time, she also completed her Master of Science in Pharmacy with a focus on statistics and research design. For her exceptional scholarly achievements during this time, Dr. Pérez Rivera received a fellowship research award from UIC. Her fellowship experience also included active membership in the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) as well as the ISPOR Chicago-area Chapter and also served as vice-president of the ISPOR Chicago Student Chapter.
During her fellowship, Dr. Pérez Rivera worked on various privately funded acute decompensated heart failure and chronic heart failure projects, in a prospective randomized clinical pharmacy service study, funded by the Agency for Health Research and Quality, and a systematic review evaluating the economic benefit of clinical pharmacy services (ACCP White Paper). Her thesis is a cost-effectiveness analysis evaluating rate and rhythm control of atrial fibrillation in heart failure patients.
Dr. Pérez Rivera is currently completing her Master of Science degree with an expected graduation date of fall 2008 from UIC.
