Dr. Omidian earned his Ph.D. in Polymer Science (1997) from Brunel University (UK), and obtained his M.Sc. and B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from Tehran Polytechnic (Iran) in 1990 and 1987, respectively. He has served in both academia and industry for over 35 years in different positions including head of the department, professor, editor, and lecturer at Iran Polymer Institute and Iran University Press. He joined Purdue University in 2001 and pursued his postdoctoral fellowship with Prof. Kinam Park in the Department of Industrial and Physical Pharmacy (IPPH). He joined the industry in 2002 and served as a senior research scientist, research manager, and principal scientist at Kos Pharmaceuticals and Abbott Laboratories, where he has been the principal investigator of a number of product development projects in the area of gastric retention drug delivery systems, and diet aid.

Dr. Omidian is holding 3 issued US patents, over 30 US and World patent applications, and 31 Invention Disclosures in the area of hydrogels and abuse-deterrent medications. He has over 116 peer-reviewed publications, 185 conference presentations, 37 book chapters and books, 28 grant proposals, nine graduates, and four current Ph.D. students. He has received major awards including three-time nominee and one-time winner of the Golden Apple for his teaching excellence as well as the President’s Distinguished Professor of the year nominee for excellence in scholarship.

Dr. Omidian has received multiple grants to continue his research on abuse-deterrent pharmaceutical dosage forms, oral gastric retention technologies, developing compositions to reduce alcohol absorption in the systemic circulation, and oral-retentive mucoadhesive drug delivery systems. Dr. Omidian is a regular reviewer of many peer-reviewed journals in the area of polymers and pharmaceutical sciences. He is a past or current member of “The American Chemical Society”, “Controlled Release Society”, and “The American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists”.

Dr. Omidian is currently a Professor at NSU’s College of Pharmacy, and Editor of several professional journals including the Journal of Bioactive and Compatible Polymers, BioImpacts, and Advanced Pharmaceutical Bulletin. He is currently teaching and coordinating several core and elective courses in the professional PharmD/graduate Ph.D. programs. The courses include Dosage Forms and Drug Delivery, Advanced Physical Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Polymers, Pharmaceutical Patents and Litigation. He is also representing the NSU’s College of Pharmacy at the United States Pharmacopeia Conventions (USP).
