Biosketch:
Sandra Benavides, PharmD, is an Associate Professor at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She received her PharmD at the University of California, San Francisco. She then completed a general practice residency at the University of California, San Diego Medical Center and a Pediatric Pharmacotherapy Fellowship at the Ohio State University. Dr Benavides specializes in pediatric pharmacy. Her research area of interest is in pediatric obesity and medical complications of obesity in this population. She also has a focus on expanding the role of the pharmacist in the care of pediatric patients. She is the lead author in the first textbook published specific to the care of children, Pediatric Pharmacotherapy. The book has reached audiences internationally. She has recently completed edited another book for those wanting to become skilled at caring for children with the Pediatric Pharmacotherapy Self Assessment book. She is a committed faculty member who works to develop students to their highest abilities. She has worked closely with other NSU faculty to offer the Residency Interview Preparatory Seminar which works one-on-one with students to guide them through the post-graduate application and interview process. Subsequently, the core faculty wrote a book, Get the Residency, to assist student across the country achieve post-graduate goals.
