Biosketch:
Dr. Brian Hierholzer attended the University of Florida for his undergraduate education in Microbiology and Chemistry. He began his Pharmacy career as a student at the Nova Southeastern University College of Pharmacy in 1999. He was a member of Phi Lambda Sigma and Rho Chi. Dr. Hierholzer was awarded the Student of the Year for the College of Pharmacy in 2002 and was a finalist for the 2002 Student of the Year for Nova Southeastern University. He graduated with honors in 2003. Dr. Hierholzer underwent Residency Training and the University of Florida Shands Jacksonville Hospital. During his residency he focused on Critical Care and Emergency Medicine. He completed research on the frequency and costs associated with Emergency Room visits due to medication non-compliance. His research lead to the institution of an Emergency Room Pharmacist within the facility. He was honored with an ASHP Residency Research award for this work. Dr. Hierholzer has worked as an Emergency Medicine Clinical Pharmacy Specialist since 2005 and returned to South Florida in 2007 where he took a position helping to institute Emergency Room Pharmacy Services at what was then Broward General Medical Center. He helped institute twelve hour, 365 day dedicated pharmacy coverage for the Emergency Department. He has since implemented more advanced medication delivery methods for the Emergency Department, Pharmacist involvement in all ACLS events throughout the facility and Pharmacist involvement in the Level One Trauma services. Dr. Hierholzer has also taken on roles in disaster management on a local, state, federal and international level. He is currently a Pharmacist employed under the Department of Homeland Security assigned to DMAT, SMRT and IMSRT teams which travel whenever and wherever needed to assist when a disaster occurs anywhere in the world.
